Three days ago, I got on a train to go to work. As I sat down, I saw this beautiful girl who had just boarded too. She was stunning.

Her skin looked like porcelain, her hair was long, almost waist-length, and she was dressed so well.

I remember staring at her in awe, completely lost in her beauty. She had this soft 90s kind of beauty with an angelic feel to it. I genuinely couldn’t take my eyes off her.

You can imagine how fast my heart was beating when I realized she was walking toward where I was seated, and actually sat close to me.

And then it struck me like lightning.

A very foul odor.

I tried so hard to convince myself it wasn’t coming from her, but unfortunately, it was. And as someone with the nose of a bloodhound, every whiff almost made me nauseous.

It was quite unpleasant.

As someone who is a girl’s girl, it really hurt me to admit this.

Another person later came and sat beside her, and I noticed her twitching her nose and avoiding looking in the girl’s direction. It even seemed like she was trying to get away from the smell.

I felt bad for the pretty girl.

And guess what? It was only 8:00 a.m. The day was literally just getting started.

I remembered coming across a video on TikTok that same day where a lady talked about how many people unknowingly smell bad.

She mentioned things like hair greaseballs, gym odor, and that stale “unclean house” smell.

The comments were even more revealing.

People talked about others smelling like coffee and cigarettes, onions, sewage breath, garlic, cavities, dirty scalps, half-dried clothes, fried food, cheese, and so much more.

That is when I realized this is actually a real problem.

So I decided to talk about it today.

Now, this is not a post to judge anyone, absolutely not. This is a safe space for all women.

What I’m going to do is to teach you how to smell good all day.

And no, this isn’t one of those posts where I tell you to just drown yourself in expensive perfumes.

This is about cleaning yourself from the inside out and making sure even your natural body scent smells fresh and clean.

This post is packed with hidden secrets, scent-layering combos, and unusual tips on how to smell good and look clean all day

So without further ado.

Let’s get started.

1. Your Towel Might Be Ruining Everything

The first thing I’m going to share with you on how to smell good all day is to change your towels regularly.

You should have at least two body towels that you can use interchangeably.

This way, when one towel is in use or still drying, you always have a clean, dry one available.

Most times, I recommend having two body towels and at least two face towels.

Why? Because the skin on your face is thinner and more sensitive.

Body towels collect more bacteria, sweat, and dead skin cells from your body, which is not suitable for your face.

Also, imagine cleaning your bum, or intimate area with a towel and then using that same towel on your face. Exactly, now you get the picture.

Also, sun-dry your towels.

Honestly, I prefer sun-drying my towels and clothes over using a dryer. Sunlight helps reduce bacteria and makes your clothes smell fresher, which is perfect especially if you sweat a lot.

Please don’t just use your towel and leave it bunched up and damp on your bed or in your closet. Always hang it out to air-dry properly. Trust me, it makes a huge difference.

The final tip I’m going to leave you with is to wash your towels regularly.

There is no reason,  absolutely none at all, why you should be using the same towel for two weeks straight without washing it. JAIL!

Wash your towels at least once a week, which is why having more than one is important.

My mom taught me this hack of adding vinegar when washing towels.

It helps kill odor buildup, removes detergent and fabric softener residue, reduces mildew buildup, and prevents that damp towel smell that eventually follows you around (yes, I have definitely smelled people with bad towel odor).

2. Your Scalp Smells Faster Than Your Perfumes

Many of us can relate to having a greasy scalp or dealing with bad scalp odor, and we can all agree, it’s not cute.

One mistake I see a lot of women make when their scalp smells bad is drowning their hair in perfume.

First of all, that is not going to solve the problem. In fact, it usually makes things worse.

When you spray perfume on dirty hair, the fragrance mixes with the odor and creates an even fouler smell. Trust me, people can tell when your hair smells bad and you are trying to cover it up.

The real secret is to actually keep your scalp clean and fresh.

First and foremost, depending on your hair type, wash your hair regularly, especially if your scalp gets greasy easily.

But please don’t overdo it. The key is balance.

One good tip I would give when it comes to washing your hair is to use a gentle, hydrating, fruity shampoo.

Now, what actually causes a smelly scalp?

  • bacteria and fungi living on the scalp
  • sweat
  • product buildup
  • excess oil

A gentle hydrating shampoo helps cleanse the scalp without stripping away its natural moisture barrier. This helps prevent excessive dryness, flaky buildup, and overproduction of oil while leaving behind a clean, light fragrance.

My personal favorite has to be the Fable & Mane HoliRoots Hydrating Shampoo.

It has this tropical fruity, creamy gourmand scent that smells absolutely divine. On top of that, it cleanses and hydrates the scalp beautifully.

Also, when washing your hair, focus on your scalp.

If you have long or thick hair, put it into sections and make sure you are actually cleansing your scalp properly instead of just washing the length of your hair.

Apply Leave-in Conditioner Or Hair Mists Every Morning.

Another thing I highly recommend is investing in leave-in conditioners or hair mists.

Not only do they moisturize your hair, but they also leave behind a beautiful light scent trail that follows you around.

I personally love the Crown Affair The Weightless Conditioner. The way it nourishes the hair honestly needs to be studied. It is one of the best things I have ever done for my hair.

For days when I don’t have time to apply cream products, I simply go in with a Leave-in conditioner mist. It still hydrates my hair while leaving behind a fresh, beautiful scent.

Clean Your Hair Brushes

It makes no sense to use the same dirty brush you used on greasy hair and then use it again on freshly washed hair.

You’re basically reintroducing oil, buildup, grease, gel residue, and bacteria back into clean hair.

Always clean your brushes regularly by removing trapped hair with tweezers or fingers, washing the brush with soap or shampoo, and disinfecting it occasionally

Detox Your Scalp

You also need to detox your scalp occasionally, especially if your hair gets greasy easily.

One simple method is mixing apple cider vinegar with water, applying it to your scalp after shampooing, leaving it on for about three minutes, and then rinsing thoroughly.

Please note: Only do this after shampooing and never apply undiluted vinegar directly to your scalp

For exfoliation, I highly recommend the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt.

My best friend introduced me to it, and ever since then, my scalp has never felt better. I have a sensitive, itchy scalp, and this product works wonders for me.

I also noticed a lot of hair growth after using it, which makes sense because it detoxifies the scalp, removes impurities, and balances excess oil production,  creating a cleaner, healthier scalp environment that supports healthy hair growth.

3. Your Ears Can Smell

When it comes to how to smell good naturally, another unusual tip I would give you is to clean your ears regularly.

One of the most ignored body parts is the ears.

Sometimes people even forget to wash them because they are not as visible as the rest of the body. Many people assume that the water running down during a shower is enough, but honestly, it’s not.

Your ears trap sweat, oil, dead skin, hair products, and bacteria, especially behind the ears, inside the outer folds, around piercings, and even where your glasses rest.

And these makes your ears to produce this sour, oily, musty smell.

Clean behind your ears daily using warm water, soap, and a washcloth, loofah, or African net sponge.

You can easily do this while bathing,  just take a few extra seconds to properly clean behind the ears, the folds of the outer ear, and around your piercings.

Also, dry your ears properly after showering, washing your hair, and after sweating.

Trapped moisture can also cause bad odor and irritation.

4. Belly Button Are Odor Traps

Your belly button can smell, yep, you heard me right.

This is because it is a small, warm, enclosed area where sweat, oil, dead skin, lint, soap residue, and bacteria can easily collect, especially in deeper belly buttons.

So while bathing, make sure you take extra time to properly clean it with your sponge or washcloth.

Also, don’t forget to dry your belly button.

Don’t just breeze past it. Use your towel properly and gently clean inside and around your belly button with a towel.

5. Your Washing Machine May Make Clothes Smell ” Not Fully Clean”

I know this might come as a surprise because the washing machine is supposed to clean your clothes.

However, we often forget that the machine stays damp most of the time. When we wash our clothes in it, dirt, lint, and residue from our clothes can remain inside the washing machine.

So when leftover dirt and moisture combine, it creates mildew, bacteria, and of course, a musty smell.

Instead of cleaning your clothes properly, the machine can end up doing the opposite, transferring that smell back into your clothes.

That is why it is important to run cleaning cycles on your washing machine regularly to remove buildup and residue.

Additionally, after every wash, always leave the washer door open to allow proper ventilation and air circulation.

This helps it dry completely, prevents moisture from being trapped inside, and reduces the growth of bacteria and odor.

6. Synthetic Fabrics Betray You Faster

Synthetic fabrics like polyester, acrylic, etc. and some types of leather are not your friends, especially if you are someone who struggles with body odor.

It becomes even worse when you wear these materials in tight, body-hugging clothes.

They are not breathable. They trap moisture and sweat against your skin, bacteria feed on it, and odor builds up faster.

That’s why gym clothes made from synthetic materials can smell quickly, even after washing.

If you are learning how to smell good all day, one important step is choosing your fabrics wisely.

Invest more in natural fibers such as cotton, linen, and wool, as they allow air to pass through easily and help sweat evaporate faster.

This keeps your skin drier, reduces bacteria buildup, and helps your clothes stay fresher for longer.

7. Your Closet Becomes Your Smell

Clothes don’t just carry fragrance from perfume or detergent,  they also absorb the environment they’re stored in.

If your closet is damp, closed up, or poorly ventilated, your clothes can pick up a stale, musty smell over time. And once you wear them, that smell becomes part of you.

That is why proper air circulation in your closet is important.

When air flows freely, moisture doesn’t get trapped, clothes stay fresher for longer, and any lingering odors are less likely to build up.

Simple habits like not overstuffing your wardrobe, leaving space between clothes, and occasionally opening your closet doors to air them out can make a HUGE difference.

8. Your Shoes May Be The Real Issue

It is not every time you need to spray cologne on your feet, sometimes, the real culprit is the shoes themselves.

Shoes collect sweat, moisture, and bacteria, especially when worn repeatedly without proper drying. Over time, this leads to that strong, unpleasant odor that people often mistake for “foot smell.”

To prevent this:

  • Rotate your shoes

Avoid wearing the same pair every day so they have time to air out.

  • Let each pair fully dry

After wearing, don’t store them immediately in a closed space. Allow proper ventilation so moisture can escape.

  • Use cedar inserts or baking soda occasionally

These help absorb odor and keep the inside of your shoes fresher.

  • Wash or clean insoles regularly

Insoles hold most of the sweat and bacteria, so cleaning them makes a big difference.

9. Moisturizer Makes Fragrance Last Longer

If there is one reason why your fragrance sips tea while watching you leave the house, it is because you don’t moisturize your skin before applying perfume.

Here’s the thing: when your skin is well moisturized and hydrated, it holds on to fragrance better, giving your perfume a proper base to cling to.

Go for a hydrating body lotion,  bonus points if it has a beautiful scent, like the eos Vanilla Cashmere 24H Body Lotion.

This lotion makes the skin feel soft and supple, and it also helps improve the overall look of the skin.

It works for all skin types and layers beautifully with perfumes, helping your scent last longer throughout the day.

Focus on areas like your neck, wrists, chest, and behind your knees. These are your pulse points, and they help your fragrance project better and last longer.

10. Your Mouth Can Smell With A Brushed Teeth

Brushing alone is not enough to fully clean your mouth or prevent bad breath.

If you want to know how to make breath smell good all day, you need to go beyond just brushing.

So first off, start tongue scraping. A lot of bacteria that cause bad breath sit on the tongue, not just the teeth. Scraping your tongue helps remove buildup and reduces odor.

Secondly. floss everyday. Food particles can get stuck between teeth and start to smell over time. Flossing removes what brushing cannot reach.

Also, dehydration can cause a warm, stale mouth smell because saliva production reduces. Staying hydrated helps keep your mouth fresh and clean throughout the day.

Another thing that makes your breath smell even after brushing your teeth is tonsil stones. In fact, they are the number one culprit of bad breath.

These tiny buildups are trapped in the tonsils and rotting there, causing this horrific odour that smells like death.

And the tricky part is that many people don’t even realize they have them.

So here is a fix to get rid of them: (take it from someone who has suffered from these heinous monsters before)

  • Get yourself a cup of warm water, add salt and a pinch of baking soda, then gargle with it every night before bed.
  • Ensure you gargle deeply and slowly so that the solution reaches the back of the throat and works effectively

11. Your Bedsheet Affect Daytime Smell

You should be washing your bed sheets and pillowcases at least once or twice a week.

You see, when you sleep, you sweat, shed dead skin cells, and transfer oils from your skin and hair onto your bedding.

Leaving this buildup over time can cause a musty smell on your sheets, dust mite buildup, that “not fresh” smell even after bathing, and even worse skin breakouts, especially facial acne.

Also, wash your pillowcases more frequently than your full bedding because they touch your face and hair directly.

12. Fragrance Layering Is What Makes People Smell Naturally Good

Now I’m going to be breaking it step by step on how to layer scents to smell good all day:

Double Cleanse Your Skin.

Start with an antibacterial soap to wash your skin first before going in with your scented body wash like the Aveeno Vanilla & Oats Body Wash or my personal favorite which is the The Naturium Glow Getter Multi-Oil Hydrating Body Wash. These smell like heaven on earth.

Moisturize Your Skin

As I said earlier, it is important to hydrate your skin with a moisturizing body cream or lotion to help your fragrance stay on your skin and last all day long.

Lock In The Moisture With Body oil

Locking in moisture with body oil means sealing hydration into your skin right after you bathe.

After applying your body lotion or cream, use a body oil to lock in the moisture and prevent it from evaporating.

Make sure it has a light fragrance, because we are building a complete fragrance profile here.

Use A Body Mist After Moisturizing

Use a body mist with a lower alcohol concentration compared to perfumes, because the higher the alcohol content, the faster the scent tends to evaporate.

On the other hand, when a product contains more fragrance oils, it tends to last longer on the skin because oils stick better to the skin and hold scent for a longer period of time.

Use A Scented Dusting Powder

You can either use store-bought dusting powder or you can DIY.

Here is how to make one:

  • Pour cornstarch into a clean bowl
  • Add baking soda and mix well
  • Add 15 pumps or drops of your favorite perfume oil or body fragrance oil.
  • Stir thoroughly so the scent spreads evenly.
  • Let it sit for  24 hours so that the fragrance fully settles.
  • Store in a clean, dry powder container.

The purpose of scented body powder is to help control sweat and oils, keep the skin dry, and add an extra layer of fragrance to your scent routine.

Use a cotton pad and put it on your pulse points, especially under your armpits.

Know Your Pulse Points

Knowing your pulse points is important because these are areas where your body naturally gives off more heat, which helps your fragrance project and last longer.

Pulse points include areas like the neck, wrists, armpits, chest, and behind the knees.

Because the blood vessels are closer to the skin in these spots, they gently warm up your perfume and help release the scent throughout the day.

Applying fragrance to these areas instead of just spraying randomly helps your scent feel more noticeable, longer-lasting, and well-distributed

Wear The Most Powerful Scent As Your Base

Wearing the most powerful scent as your base means starting your fragrance routine with an Eau de Parfum or any perfume with a higher concentration of fragrance oils.

Eau de Parfum is stronger and longer-lastingl because it contains more perfume oils and less alcohol. This allows it to sit better on the skin and slowly release its scent throughout the day.

Think of it as your “foundation scent.” It sets the tone of your fragrance and stays with you the longest, even as lighter layers fade.

Then use an Eau de Toilette perfume, which has a lighter scent, to finish off your fragrance routine, especially something fruity or floral.

Here Are Some Of The Best Layering Combos

These combos will make you smell divine and fetch your compliments everywhere you go.

Use Antiperspirants And Deodorants Before Bed

Using antiperspirants and deodorants before bed is actually more effective than applying them in the morning.

At night, your body temperature is lower and you sweat less, which allows the product to properly absorb into the sweat glands.

Antiperspirants work by creating a temporary “plug” in the sweat ducts, so applying them on clean, dry skin before sleep gives them time to work more effectively overnight.

By morning, the protection is already in place, helping you stay fresher and reduce sweat and odor throughout the day.

13. Armpits Aren’t The Only Sweat Zones

Contrary to what many people think, armpits are not the only sweat zones.

Anywhere your skin folds or meets,  also called crevices,  is a sweat zone.

So think of areas like under the breasts, behind the knees, inner thighs, and feet.

To properly maintain hygiene, you should wash and dry these areas thoroughly.

Exfoliating them also helps remove dead skin cells, which can mix with sweat and bacteria to produce a bad odor.

When it comes to how to smell good all day, it is not just about perfume,  it’s also about cleaning and maintaining these hidden sweat zones

Additionally, if you tend to sweat heavily in your armpits and notice odor, using a benzoyl peroxide wash can help kill the odor-causing bacteria.

14. Eat Cleaner Before Important Days

Avoid foods like garlic, onions, excess alcohol, certain spices, and heavy fast food, because they can come through your pores and affect your body odor.

Also, ensure you drink enough water regularly, as it helps your body flush out toxins and contributes to a cleaner, fresher natural body scent.

15. Wash After You Pee

how to make your breath smell good all day

When it comes to feminine hygiene, it is important to wash your vulva area after you pee.

After you urinate, small traces of urine can sometimes remain around the vulva area because it is an enclosed space.

If it is not properly cleaned, this urine which is a waste product of the body, mixes with sweat and bacteria, causing irritation and an unpleasant odor.

That is why it is important to use a bidet to gently wash the area after you go. There are also portable bidets you can take with you wherever you go.

After you pee, wipe and rinse with water, nothing else. You don’t need any scented product or anything harsh; just clean water is enough.

16. Don’t Wear Underwear At Night

Let your girl BREATHEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!.

You have been wearing underwear all day, so there is already a buildup of heat and moisture in your intimate area.

When you get home, take a bath, dry yourself properly, and let her be free. Trust me, she will thank you for it.

Sleeping without underwear allows better ventilation, improves air flow, and supports overall intimate comfort and hygiene.

Besides, doesn’t it feel good to lie down, relax,  and just feel the cool air flowing in and out of there, especially after a shave or wax?

17. Pee After Intimacy

I cannot stress this enough, you need to pee after being intimate with your partner.

Peeing after $exual activity is a simple hygiene habit that can help reduce the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs).

During intimacy, bacteria from the skin or genital area can sometimes enter the urethra (the opening where urine comes out).

When you urinate afterward, it helps flush out any bacteria that may have been pushed into the urethra, reducing the chance of infection.

So my final advice on how to smell good all day: Pee after Intimacy. Please, make this a habit.
