Feeling burnt out? A self care bath might be just what you need. Taking a self care bath is a simple and effective way to reduce stress, soothe sore muscles, and improve your overall well-being.

With a little bit of self care planning and preparation, you can turn your bath ritual into a luxurious and rejuvenating experience.

By taking the time from your busy schedule to pamper yourself, you are investing in your own self-care and happiness.

This self care bath routine will rejuvenate your body and give you glowing skin. We will discuss how often you should take a self-care bath, ideas for your self-care bath routine, essential self-care bath products, and why baths are good for self-care.

How Often Should You Take A Self Care Bath?

The frequency of your self-care bath routine depends on your personal preferences, lifestyle, and skin type.

A weekly or biweekly bath routine can help you feel refreshed and reduce stress levels. On the other days, opt for a quick shower to keep your skin clean and fresh.

However, if you have dry and sensitive skin, you might want to avoid taking daily baths. Bathing mistakes like bathing too often can cause you to strip your skin’s natural oils and cause dryness or irritation.

It’s essential to listen to your body and adjust your self care bath routine accordingly.

How Do You Do A Self Care Bath Routine?

When it comes to indulging in a luxurious self care bath, preparation is key. Taking the time to set the mood and create a comfortable environment can make all the difference in your self care bath ritual.

Here are some tips to help you prepare for your perfect bath.

1. Set the Mood

Creating a relaxing atmosphere is key to a successful self care bath.

Start by dimming the lights, and lighting some candles to create a warm and inviting ambiance.

Remove unnecessary distractions by turning off your phone or putting it on silent, and let others know that you are not to be disturbed.

You can also play some relaxing music or nature sounds to help you unwind.

Another way to enhance the mood is to add some plants or flowers to your bathroom. Not only do they add a touch of natural beauty, but they can also improve the air quality and create a calming effect.

2. Choose the Right Self Care Bath Products

When choosing bath products for your self care routine, consider your skin type and any sensitivities you may have.

Avoid products that contain harsh chemicals or fragrances that may irritate your skin. Instead, opt for gentle products that are hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, safe for sensitive skin.

Look for products that are designed for self care baths, such as bath salts, bath bombs, or bubble bath, face mask, exfoliator, bath robes or towels. You can also add essential oils to your bath for the aromatherapy benefits.

There’s a list of products if you scroll down this post, if that’s what you’re looking for. But I suggest reading through, you don’t want to miss anything!

3. Timing and Duration

A self care bath isn’t something you want to quickly fit in before the next commitment. Plan to take your bath when you have enough time to fully relax and enjoy the experience.

Avoid taking a bath when you are rushed or stressed, as this can defeat the purpose of practising self care.

You want to set a timer for a self-care bath between 20-30 minutes. This gives your body enough time to absorb the benefits of the bath products and fully relax.

Soaking in really hot bath is like being in a a super hot sauna for too long, it can cause serious side effects such as dehydration and dizzyness.

4. Choosing the Right Temperature

Choosing the right temperature for your bath can make a big difference in your overall relaxing experience. A hot bath can help relieve sore muscles and promote relaxation.

However, be mindful of the temperature of the water, the optimum temperature would be 36-40 degree Celsius (slightly above human temperature).

Otherwise, hot self care baths can affect you and your bathroom.

5. Appeal to Your Senses

To take your self-care bath to the next level, consider adding some extras.

You can bring a book or magazine to read, or use a waterproof tablet holder to watch a movie or TV show. If you already have a TV in your bathroom, lucky you, I’m honestly so jealous right now!

Take the time to listen to a podcast (like the Girl You Are Magic Podcast), or simply close your eyes and focus on your breath to meditate. I’m currently loving the Headspace Guide To Mindfulness & Meditation on Audible, get 30 days free.

You can also enjoy a glass of wine with cheese and crackers or a cup of tea, fruits, treats on a bath tray to indulge your taste buds.

Another way to add some extra pampering is to use a face mask or hair mask while soaking in the tub.

Use soft, fluffy towels and a cozy bathrobe to wrap yourself in comfort after the bath.

Soft music or nature sounds from this sound machine can also help create a calming atmosphere.

Consider using scented candles, essential oils, or bath salts to create a soothing aroma.

What Do You Put In A Self Care Bath? Self Care Bath Products & Essentials

To take your bath experience to the next level, you need the right self care bath products. Here are some of the best selfcare products to help you create a spa-like experience right in your own bathroom.

Bath Tray

A bath tray is a great addition to your bath routine. It can hold your book, tablet, or phone, allowing you to read, watch a show, or listen to music while you soak.

This bath tray has a have a built-in holder for your wine glass or cup of tea.

Essential Oils

Adding essential oils to your bath water can help promote relaxation. Lemon, lavender, ylang slang, chamomile, and eucalyptus are popular choices.

Be sure to mix the essential oil with a carrier oil, like sweet almond oil or jojoba oil, before adding it to your bath water. And if you are going to use lemon oil, make sure you are wearing sunscreen because it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun.

You can also add essential oils to your diffusers to create a spa-like atmosphere in your bathroom.

Candles

Using candles is another great way to create a self care ritual in your bathroom. Most candles already come with essential oils. Essential oils come with their own special benefits.

Lavender: used to relieve stress

Sandalwood: used to calm nerves and help with focus

Bergamot: used to reduce stress and improve skin conditions like eczema

Rose: used to improve mood and reduce anxiety

Chamomile: used to improve mood and relaxation

Ylang-Ylang: used to treat headaches, nausea, and skin conditions

Jasmine: used to help with depression, childbirth, and libido

Choose scents that are calming and soothing, my personal favourites are Ylang Ylang and Rose.

Incorporating Bath Salts

Bath salts are a great way to enhance your self-care bath. Epsom salt, for example, can help soothe muscle pain and reduce inflammation.

Dead sea salt is another popular option, known for its detoxifying properties.

Be sure to follow the instructions on the package for the recommended amount to add to your bath water.

Using Bath Bombs or Bubble Bath

If you don’t want to use bath salts you can opt for bath bombs and bubble baths instead. They can add a fun and luxurious element to your self care bath routine.

Bath bombs and bubble baths can come in a variety of scents and colours, and can even contain essential oils and moisturising ingredients like shea butter.

Some of them can smell heavenly, just be sure that when choosing these products you are picking good quality and gentle products for your skin.

Here are some of my favourites.

Skin Care

While you’re soaking in the tub, why not take care of your skin?

Applying a face mask while you soak in the tub is a great way to pamper yourself and give your skin a little extra TLC. A face mask can help to hydrate, brighten, or detoxify your skin, depending on your needs.

Body oils and body butters are great for moisturizing your skin after you soak in the tub.

Instead of the harsh exfoliator scrub you can a gentler formula with glycolic acid to brighten up the skin.

Bath accessories

A bath pillow can come in handy to help support your head and neck while you relax in the tub.

After your bath, you’ll want to wrap yourself in a warm, cozy bathrobe and slip on some comfortable slippers. Make sure you have plenty of soft, fluffy towels on hand to dry off after your bath.

While doing your skin care, you would want to keep your hair out of your face. A soft microfibre spa headband can add a touch of luxury to your self care bath routine.

A good loofah can be a game changer for your skin. It helps to exfoliate dead skin cells, increase circulation, and promote youthful glowing skin.

Extras

No self-care bath is complete without some indulgent snacks or treats. Treat yourself to some chocolate, fresh fruit, or a glass of wine to enjoy while you soak.

While you’re at it, you’ll need a waterproof speaker to play soothing sounds. And, for my crystal lovers out there, you can take your self care bath ritual to new spiritual heights with some crystals!

Why Are Baths Good For Self Care

When you take a self care bath, you are doing more than just cleaning your body. You are taking time for yourself and engaging in a practice that can have numerous benefits for your physical and mental health. Here are some of the benefits of a self care bath:

Relaxation

One of the main benefits of a self care bath is relaxation. When you sink into a warm bath, your muscles relax and tension melts away. Adding essential oils or bath salts with aromatherapy can enhance the relaxing effects of your bath.

Stress Relief

In addition to promoting relaxation, a self care bath can help reduce stress and anxiety, promote a sense of calm and even lose calories, similar to the benefits of exercise.

Stress can have numerous negative effects on your body, from muscle tension to a weakened immune system. Taking a bath can help counteract these effects, allowing you to feel more relaxed and centered.

Skin Care

If you find that you are always skipping out on skin care, a self care bath ritual is the perfect time to give your skin some extra TLC and focus on your problem areas.

Bathing can help cleanse your skin, preventing the build up of dead skin cells while also reducing inflammation and irritation.

Muscle Pain Relief

If you suffer from muscle pain or soreness, a self care bath can be a great way to find relief. The warm water can help reduce inflammation and promoting healing.

Adding Epsom salts to your bath can also help soothe sore muscles and reduce pain.

Creating a self-care bath routine is an excellent way to recharge and take care of yourself. With the self care bath ideas, products and essentials mentioned above, you can create a relaxing spa-like experience at home.

Remember to listen to your body, adjust your routine as necessary, and indulge in some much-needed alone time. Taking care of yourself is not selfish, it’s necessary, so make sure to prioritize self-care in your daily routine.
