I hope this inspires you to follow your dreams.

When I was around four or five years old, I wanted to be an actress. I told my dad, and it turned out to be a mistake because he projected his own ideas and beliefs onto me.

A few years later, I wanted to be a singer because I had a good voice (I’m not so sure about now, though). I remember someone in high school telling me to settle for maybe just being a gospel singer, but not a well known artist.

These negative comments planted seeds of doubt in my mind.

I’m sharing this because I don’t want you to feel like you’re dreaming too big or to settle for less. Your big dreams aren’t the problem; the issue lies in your self-belief. Somewhere along the line, someone might have told you that you couldn’t achieve or follow your dreams, and now that thought lingers in your subconscious. It’s crucial to overcome this mindset.

Between ages four to fifteen, I had numerous dreams, including wanting to be famous and a celebrity. The only thing holding me back was my fear and lack of self-belief. Pay attention to the signs the universe sends your way.

I remember a taxi driver who once told me that I already was everything I wanted to be; I just needed self-belief. His words struck a chord with me, and I started writing down my dreams and aspirations.

How To Find The Courage To Follow Your Dreams

1. Write Down Your Dreams

Writing down your dreams can be powerful. Your dreams of becoming a doctor, a model, an actress—write them down. They keep coming up because you’re meant to fulfill them. God won’t leave you alone because that’s His plan for you.

I firmly believe you cannot find your purpose without tying it to a higher power, and for me, that’s God.

In that transformative taxi ride, I wrote down everything I wanted to be, do, and have. This exercise was therapeutic and helped solidify my aspirations. I noted my love for photography, creativity, animals, children, and dancing.

Writing things down made these dreams more tangible, and over time, I became more of those things because I believed it.

2. Seek Guidance from God

Recently, I asked God if I should continue creating content or get a regular job. It was a tough decision because I needed a job to stay in the UK.

I was in a dark place, struggling to go to the gym or do regular activities. I prayed for a sign, and one day, at the gym, a stranger approached me. He remembered me from when I was a waitress and gave me a book titled Jump by Steve Harvey, one of my biggest inspirations that I still listen to till this very day.

This book and the encounter felt like a clear sign from the universe.

3. Find Your Ikigai

If you’re struggling to find your purpose, consider exploring the concept of Ikigai—a Japanese term that means “reason to live.” It’s about finding a balance between what you love, what you’re good at, what you can be paid for, and what the world needs. I once wrote down questions to help find my creative purpose:

  • What do you do for fun and relaxation?
  • What kind of books do you read?
  • How do you spend your time outside work?
  • What kind of travel trips do you take?
  • What are you good at?
  • What are you not so good at?
  • What could you work on?
  • What do you care about?
  • Who do you admire?

By answering these questions and looking for patterns, you can start to uncover your Ikigai.

4. Start Small and Simplify

You don’t have to have everything perfect to start. I started my podcast as a joke, but it became something I love.

Before I began my blog, I wanted to create content for fashion, skincare, and more, but I was overwhelmed. A therapist/coach helped me simplify my goals. I focused on writing and drawing, which led to my Etsy shop and blogging. I had no idea at the time you could even make money blogging.

Eventually, I added the podcast.

Start with what’s easiest for you and comes naturally. For me, it was writing. Don’t compare yourself to others; do what you’re good at. Some people naturally excel in certain areas, and those are the things they should pursue.

5. Overcoming Fear of Failure

Fear of failure can paralyze us, but remember that failure is part of success. You can’t have one without the other. I was terrified of regretting not trying. Imagine reaching 60 and realizing you stood still because of fear—how miserable would that be? This thought pushed me to take action.

6. Controlling Your Subconscious Mind

You can control your thoughts and reprogram your mind. I started telling myself I was a dancer and an athlete, and today, I actually pole dance. Feed your mind with positive thoughts and affirmations. Your subconscious mind is at your command, and it’s as simple as telling yourself who you want to be.

7. Taking Action Despite Imperfection

When I started my podcast, nothing was perfect, and it still isn’t. But done is better than perfect. We don’t have as much time as we think, so don’t wait for the perfect moment. Start now, and everything will align.

Believe In Yourself And Follow Your Dreams

To anyone out there who’s a dreamer, keep dreaming. Dreams do come true when you believe in yourself. Take small steps, trust in a higher power, and don’t let fear hold you back. Remember, the only difference between someone who succeeds and someone who doesn’t is self-belief and the courage to take action.

To all the dreamers out there, keep believing in yourself, and your dreams will come true.
