Glow Up Tips

1. Hydration is Key

Keeping your skin hydrated is essential for that perfect glow. Always carry a bottle of water with you, and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

2. Get Enough Sleep

A lack of sleep not only affects our health but also affects the appearance of our skin. Make sure to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep most nights.

3. Beauty Smoothies

I started making beauty smoothies to get clear skin when I had congested pores and let me tell you they make a huge difference! Plus you get to drink your fruits and veggies it’s a win win! If all other skin care glow up tips fail, I always come back to this one! Here is an awesome beauty recipe for your glow up.

4. Detox Teas

Detox teas are great especially after thanksgiving or New years, when you’ve racked on a few pounds from the holidays, and you are feeling the signs of an unhappy gut. The bloating, the skin issues, trouble sleeping, the signs are all there. Do a detox and you’ll be glad you did!

5. Don’t Forget Your Brows

This simple beauty hack will level up your appearance – get your lashes threaded. Your brows frame your face and can transform your entire look. Remember that scene from ‘The Princess Diaries’ – the before and after she got her brows and hair done?

6. Develop a Skin care Routine

Less is more when it comes to skin care. Stick to the basics and you can always build up from there. Must haves for skin care are a moisturiser, cleanser and a sunscreen. I personally make sure to use separate products for my morning and night routine and all the products I use are korean skin care products at this point because I absolutely love them!

7. Reduce your acne overnight

There’s nothing worse than having an important event to attend and then suddenly finding an unwanted guest on your face in the days leading up to it. I usually use my trusty tea tree oil with a drop of water on a q-tip the night before and it never fails! You can always stock up on pimple patches just in case.

8. Sunscreen is a Must

Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is crucial. Always use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Trust me, you don’t want to know the horrors of not wearing sunscreen. Most people (me included I’ll admit) wear sunscreens, but forget to wear it on their hands and neck, don’t be like them!

9. Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliating your skin helps to remove dead skin cells and reveal smooth and radiant skin. Use gentle exfoliants for sensitive skin, and harsher scrubs for oily skin. Chemical exfoliants (AHAs and BHAs) are less harsher on your skin than the physical exfoliants a.k.a typical sugar, coffee or walnut scrubs.

10. Get Regular Mani & Pedis

This has become one of my favourite thing to do on a self care saturday whenever I need a quick glow up. I used to do my nails and feet myself but after getting it done a few times professionally, I honestly do not know how I was able to live without it!

11. Moisturise Daily

Moisturizing your skin twice a day keeps it hydrated and radiant. Make sure to find a moisturizer that works for your skin type.

Pro tip: Just as we need heavier clothes in the winter and lighter clothes in the summer, the same applies for our skin too but with skincare 🙂

12. Ice your skin

This is another one of the great glow up tips for taming inflamed skin. If you have angry breakouts, try icing your skin. This will dramatically reduce the swelling or any other puffiness you may have. Be prepared to say good bye to those giant pores!

13. Castor oil for lashes

I have seen major growth in my lashes because of this one oil! I don’t know about you but anytime I get lash extension for too long I end up loosing my actual lashes, so this is great whenever I just need a break from getting lash extensions. They work great on brows as well tbh anywhere you would like to grow hair!

14. Do a hair mask weekly

Once a week, I do a hair mask and I alternate between protein and moisture treatments depending on what my hair needs. Be sure to switch your conditioners for different brands because your hair will get used to it. If you haven’t already try using apple cider vinegar rinse once a month to properly cleanse your hair.

15. Cut Out Sugar and Dairy

If you are struggling with acne and weight gain, cut out these two ingredients for at least a month to see a difference. I recently added dairy into my diet but I am doing this in small doses because I know I am not immune to side effects it can have on my skin, not to mention how consuming a lot of sugar can speed up your aging process!

16. Switch to a Rainbow diet

Did you know that all the antioxidants in your skin care can be found in your food too? If you are willing to spend tons of money on skincare why not invest more into the food that goes into your body. A healthy diet that makes your gut happy is essential for healthy and glowing skin.

17. Exercise Regularly

Regular exercise not only keeps you healthy but also helps to remove toxins from your body which gives your skin and gives that perfect glow.

18. Take Time to De-Stress

Stress doesn’t only affect our mental health but also affects our physical appearance. Take time to relax and de-stress, practice mindful breathing techniques, or indulge in a relaxing bath.

19. No make up makeup

For a flawless no makeup make up look, mix your foundation with your moisturiser. No need for a bb cream, It’ll act as your bb cream. No one will ever be able to tell that you are wearing makeup ;).

20. Change Your Pillowcase

Dirty pillowcases can cause clogged pores and acne breakouts. When you sleep, your face comes into contact with the pillowcase which becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, sweat and oils, if not changed regularly. Change your pillowcase at least 1x a week.

21. Get rid of hyperpigmentation

Struggling to get rid of super knees, thighs and armpit? The answer is simple – exfoliate and no you don’t need lemons. Try to exfoliate your body at least 2x a week. I recommend gentle exfoliation especially if you have sensitive skin. Look for ingredients with AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic actid, malic acid) or you could just go for the regular sugar scrub.

22. Use Green tea bags

Green tea is amazing for treating acne, it is also packed with loads of antioxidants and EGCG which suppresses the acne causing bacteria on the skin. It reduces sebum production, which can be responsible for causing breakouts. Look for green tea in your beauty products or use the natural green bags – it works just as well!

23. Give your skin a break

Your skin is way smarter than you think. It can repair itself. It can also be counterintuitive to try a bunch of products to fix your skin issues. Sometimes the best thing you can do is to give it time from the harsh chemicals, the makeup, so that it can heal itself.

24. Use Brightening Products

Products that contain vitamin C, retinol and niacinamide helps to even out skin tone and brighten dull skin.

25. Facial Massages

Gently massaging your face with a facial roller or gua sha helps to boost circulation and reduce puffiness. Also, fun fact: doing face yoga consistently can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and can dramatically improve the appearance of your face!

26. Use a Face Mist In the Summertime

Refreshing face mists help to hydrate and revitalize the skin, especially during hot and humid days.

27. Pay Attention to your Eyes

For tired eyes use a cooling eye mask or even a drop of cold compress to keep the under-eye area hydrated and reduce puffiness. Invest in an under eye cream that contains caffeine and that usually works wonders but not without sleep.

28. Remove Makeup Before Bed

Sleeping with makeup on can lead to clogged pores and breakouts, always make sure to remove all makeup before going to bed.

29. Change your hairstyle

Find out what your face shape is and get a hairstyle that looks great with your face shape. Whether you’re square, heart-shaped, or round, this article will help you decide that.

30. Make Self Care A Lifestyle

Prioritize self care by taking a relaxing bath, practicing meditation, or treating yourself to a spa day. Making time for yourself is crucial for your mental and emotional wellbeing.

31. Hydrate Your Lips

No one wants to be walking around with cracked busted lips. Dry, cracked lips can be uncomfortable and make you feel less confident. Always carry around a lip balm or some lip gloss. Exfoliate them at least once a week. To lighten your lips, make a DIY sugar scrub with some lemon and honey.

32. Teeth Whitening

A radiant smile adds to the glow of your overall appearance. Use teeth whitening products to get a brighter smile. If you don’t take any of the other glow up tips on here, take this one very seriously! You don’t want to be that pretty girl that opens her mouth and it’s a hot mess!

Protip – If you can’t afford to get your teeth whitened, just mix baking soda with hydrogen peroxide or do some coconut pulling with turmeric!

33. Find Your Signature Scent

A great fragrance adds to your overall appearance and boosts your confidence. Get a perfume that goes well with your personality and natural body scent.

I got a random weird tip from a guy who works at the department store, don’t quote me on this but – he said “if you taste the perfume and its got a stingy peppery taste then it doesn’t go with your natural scent but if it doesn’t have a sharp taste then that’s your scent”. Still haven’t confirmed if it works or not, so don’t quote me on this.

34. Confidence is the Secret

At the end of the day, confidence is the most important factor that contributes to your overall glow up. Confidence comes from within, get to know yourself and trust yourself and you will start to glow on the outside. For the full glow up you have to glow up mentally first.

35. Listen to Beauty Subliminals

Again, beauty is a skin deep. Subliminals with beauty affirmations aimed at promoting self-love and acceptance will help reshape your negative thought patterns and foster a more positive self-image. When you feel good about yourself, you naturally want to treat it better, hence feeling more attractive as a result!

Glowing skin isn’t just for models or celebrities, you deserve to feel beautiful in your own skin. These glow up tips are simple yet effective, and easy to incorporate into your daily routine. Always remember, healthy and radiant skin comes from within, so prioritise your mental health, and have fun with these tips.

Finally, take pride in your unique beauty, and let your confidence shine through!
